Minnesota DFL Letter of Support
The Minnesota DFL has streamlined the process for non-partisan election candidates to obtain a DFL Letter of Support. The DFL’s Senate Districts whose geographical boundaries encompass the elected office’s district will form a special committee. This special committee will invite candidates to seek a Letter of Support. Candidates will apply to only this special committee rather than to the individual Senate Districts’ Central Committees. The procedure includes filling out an application form and attending a meeting of the special committee for a brief interview and voting by the special committee.
The DFL Letter of Support affirms that a candidate for a non-partisan municipal or school board office is a member in good standing with the DFL, or that an issue campaign (example: a city ballot question) is in alignment with the State Party Platform and Action Agenda, and the respective campaign is granted the option to purchase a VAN (Voter Activation Network) account from the DFL for use by the candidate’s campaign committee. The Letter of Support is not a DFL endorsement, and multiple candidates for an elected office may be issued Letters of Support. Campaigns with a Letter of Support are also invited to participate in DFL events (example: tabling at our picnic, speaking at our Central Committee meetings, sharing events with members in our Facebook private group).
Candidates for office in both Bloomington and Edina have access to the DFL Letter of Support.
If a candidate or issue campaign in Bloomington requests a DFL Letter of Support, a joint SD50 and SD51 committee will be convened.
If a candidate or issue campaign in Edina requests a DFL Letter of Support, a joint SD46 and SD50 committee will be convened.
