August 2023 Newsletter

August 2023 SD50 Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Newsletter

In a few short weeks, we’ll know who is running for seats in our local elections here in Edina and Bloomington. While these elections are non-partisan, they should not be ignored by our political parties or by voters who share our Democratic values. In fact, just reviewing the social media for the local Republican party shows they are actively recruiting and training candidates to run for local office.

Candidates for local office must file by 5 p.m. on August 15 - and after that we will all have a better picture of who is running and can start to imagine the future they envision for our communities. I’d encourage my fellow Democrats to think about how you’ll be involved, so that when August 16 is here, you can start supporting candidates that share our values. Even giving a modest donation, or hosting a yard sign helps. Of course, the best way of all to get folks elected - door knocking! I’ll see you out there!

You’re invited - join us at our community-building picnic!

RAIN OR SHINE!

Please join us for our annual summer picnic at Bush Lake Park Shelter #2, 9401 W Bush Lake Rd, Bloomington, MN 55438. We’ll have picnic food, information about local elections and issues, a free henna artist, and fun. Julie Blaha is our featured speaker - can’t wait!

We are asking for a donation of $25/family to offset our picnic costs. We’d love to meet some neighbors that are new to DFL events but that share our values for a government that works for everyone.

Full details, including advance donations, and volunteer sign-up, are on our website.

You can also informally RSVP on Facebook.

When: Saturday, August 12 - RAIN OR SHINE! from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Are you considering running for local office?

The Minnesota DFL has a Letter of Support process available to non-partisan candidates across the state. While we know these elections are non-partisan, it is still critically important that we elect leaders that share our DFL values to represent us in elections for park districts, watershed districts, school boards, city councils, and more. Local government matters! If you’re running in Edina or Bloomington and want to learn more, you can find information on our website.

That’s it for now! Stay up to date at www.SD50DFL.org

Until then, Your donation helps support our work.
