March 2024 Newsletter

March 2024 SD50 Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Newsletter

Hello, DFLers! Your local DFL has been working hard at preparing for our upcoming Convention. Thank you to all who showed up at Precinct Caucuses with your Resolutions and all who raised their hand to be a Delegate to our upcoming convention.

Official notices for the convention will be mailed in advance of the date, but this newsletter serves as a good notice of things that you may want to know between now and then!

Senate District 50 DFL Convention

When: Saturday, April 20, 2024. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., Convention convenes at 10:00 a.m.

Where: South View Middle School, 4725 South View Ln, Edina MN 55424

Suggested donation: We are asking for a suggested donation of $40/attendee to offset the costs of hosting the convention. Donations can be made in person or online.

Who is welcome to attend? Any and all DFLers! If you were not elected as a delegate at precinct caucus, you are welcome to attend the convention as a visitor. We will have visitor seating in the convention hall. If you were elected as a delegate, you will be seated with your precinct delegation for the events of the day. Want to volunteer? We have a role for you! Reach out to chair@sd50dfl.org

More information: Visit our Convention webpage for more information, which is updated as it is available. We will have printed copies of all convention documents.

What happens at the Convention? We will have a full agenda! In addition to speeches from candidates, visiting information tables, and gathering in community we will:

  • Ratify the election of Precinct Leaders who were elected at precinct caucuses.

  • Elect our new SD50 DFL Officers and Central Committee Members. Interested in running for one of these roles? Complete a nomination form by March 24th.

  • Elect State Central Committee (SCC) Members and Alternates.

  • Elect Delegates and Alternates to the Congressional District 3, Congressional District 5, and State Conventions.

  • Adopt our 2024-2026 Constitution and Bylaws.

  • Consider Endorsement of 2024 State House candidates.

  • Consider and vote on Resolutions to be presented at the 2024 State Convention.

It's tax season. Don't forget to designate $5 to go to the DFL party on your state income and property tax returns. The DFL Party code is 12.

Minnesota income tax and property tax return forms have a space where the taxpayer can check a box to designate $5.00 (or two separate $5.00 amounts for spouses filing jointly) to go to a particular political party. By entering a code into the box, you are directing taxpayer funds to the political party of your choice, not contributing your own money. Doing so will not reduce the amount of your return, nor increase your tax bill.

Join us for a Central Committee Meeting!

Our Central Committee meets once a month, usually on Zoom, and we’d love to have you join us. Our meetings are open to all DFLers; voting members include our SD50 Executive Officers, Central Committee, and Precinct leaders. Our number one job is to ELECT DEMOCRATS! and everything we do is with that goal in mind. We’d love to have you!
